Ensuring quality in Medical Device Reprocessing Departments (MDRD) requires a mix of man, machine, and device all performing at their best. We will start with Performance Qualification (PQ) that demonstrates automated equipment and accessories are operating optimally and as intended. Then discuss how verifying that manual cleaning steps are being performed effectively is also a quality check MDRDs should incorporate into their quality systems. Lastly, we will look into quality inspection of the medical devices themselves to ensure they are ready for reuse.

The presentation will provide education around the manual processes that take place in the decontamination area and how it affects our process flows. It will define the two terms and clear the confusion of the terms as well as outline the steps to each process and how it does not apply to all medical devices processed within out department. There will be discussion on how our standards can and should help in further applying these processes to our work flow.
